African dance is all about pleasure of movement, sharing the joy and passion of the interaction between rhythm and motion, by getting the whole body moving. Inge's African dance classes are based on traditional Guinean dance and the music is an essential part of these dances. African dance is a very organic way of dancing, that feels exceptionallly pleasant and helps you create or maintain a good fitness! You will improve your flexibility and strenght  during these classes, with the help of the teacher who focuses strongly on basics in posture and African dance vocabulairy. Much attention will be placed on specifics that make this style of dancing so unique, such as details to how movements are performed the proper way, and the musicality and dynamics of both rhythm and dance.

Contemporary dance: to be started again in january 2012
This class is a technique training class for advanced (world)dancers. It teaches the basics and so needed technique for world dancers in styles such as zouk, bellydance, African dance, samba, salsa, tango etc. The course will place a lot of attention on basic positions and postures and how to move from there, and how to relate that to other styles of dancing, in order to; maintain a healthy body, to improve performance skills by using the body and space in different ways, and by opening the creativity by exploring dance from a very different perspective and training than most world dancers are used to do. Obviously this class is also very suitable for contemporary or jazz dancers starting from an intermediate level. Both men and women are welcome to join!

This 8-week course asks for a high amount of self-engagement, openess, and even discipline, to avoid too much time being lost by the teacher demonstrating steps. The aim is to reach a certain depth in the class through students knowing the material well; only then they can work on the experience of the material , the discovery of new ways of moving and sensing, and the connection between what they learn and their own styles of dancing. Eventually this will create more creativity and freedom in choreographing and performing. Obviously, highly motivated, advanced dancers without stage ambitions are more then welcome too!To register for this class you can call, or send an email (see contact).

General content of group classes:
Warm up: We start slowly to gently soften and awaken each body part. This gradually builds up into a highly energetic level to make sure the whole body is ready and adaptable for the dance material that you’re about to learn. Easy flowing movements will be alternated with 'dryer' exercises and isolations of lower body/upper body and specific body parts.
Body:
You will learn dance material, drawing on styles that depend on your choice of class. A
ttention will be placed on teaching you the dancing material in a healthy way that fits your body to avoid injuries, and to the specefic features in style, performance and technique that make the type of class and material unique. We will use things elements such as travelling across the floor, technical combinations, and turn- and jump sequences. During different classes we'll work on building up a dance combination from ingedients used or prepared earlier in class. If time allows, we can have more combinations or alternate these with different elements like e.g. improvisation/composition, performance skills, floorwork, adagio's etc. Influence and input from students is always welcome!
Cool down:
During the cool down we will take some time to ‘wind down’ by slowly stretching all the main muscles that we've used, or that have special needs, with attention placed on breath and posture.

What to wear
:
In most classes you can dance bare feet/socks, with soft jazz shoes or indoor sneakers (no or little profile); it depends on class and studio. Don't forget to wear comfortable clothes (loose or stretching).
